Plans to re-open St Marys
The PCC met on Wednesday and we agreed that we would plan to open Sunday worship in St Mary's, initially for one service each week from September. We plan to open for private prayer on Sunday mornings during the final two or three Sundays of August.  There are many reasons for this, including difficulties in expecting visiting ministers to take responsibility for coronavirus safeguards whilst the Rector is on holiday, the very small number of people who indicated they would be willing to come on a Sunday morning at this time.  Sadly, the reality that without being able to sing or enjoy social interaction or refreshments after a service, much of what people come to church for will be missing. For those who are online we will continue to have some form of online worship although this will be of a different nature over the summer holiday period. In the meantime the church is available for a limited number of small funerals.
Food Collective
The exciting news is that the Food Collective are once more able to supply us with food to distribute. Before they do so, they have asked us to obtain lockable storage and to increase the number of volunteers on our rota before we open. Because of social distancing and other restrictions on the use of the church, we plan to use the church hall. If you would like to volunteer to work at St Mary's Food Collective outlet, please let Nick know. When we have fulfilled these conditions we will be open on Thursdays from midday to 2 p.m. for the distribution of food only, although we will need volunteers to be available for longer, to set up before and clear away after the session. When social distancing is no longer required and volunteers who have provided other services, like refreshments, budgeting advice, pastoral care, prayer and worship are once again able to take part, we plan to re-open this wider ministry again.
